What is Information Security?
Protecting confidential information is a common sense requirement these days, and in most cases is also a legal requirement.
Information security involves protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction.
The purpose of information security is to ensure that all information held by an organization, regardless of whether it resides on a computer hard drive or in a filing cabinet, is maintained with:
Confidentiality - ensuring that information is accessible only to those authorized to have access
Integrity - safeguarding the accuracy and completeness of information and processing methods
Availability - ensuring that authorized users have access to information and associated assets when required
